Coffered

Coffered Ceilings have been fashionable since medieval times when structural beams formed ‘coffers’ (or boxes) as the framework of beams intersected making a grid.  In later years, as smooth plaster ceilings became the standard, many designers and builders turned to decorative beams and Coffered Ceiling treatments to dress up the plain plaster.  Different architectural periods have all created various interpretations of traditional Coffered Ceilings and today’s versions all still reflect them in one way or another.
